On May 27, 2024, Memorial Day, Logansport High School held a poignant and memorable dedication ceremony for the new Military Wall of Honor. The event was a heartfelt tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of our military heroes, past and present.

The ceremony commenced with the solemn playing of Taps by Band Director Mr. Ned Boyd, a fitting tribute to those who have served our nation. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, uniting all attendees in a moment of national pride and remembrance.

Welcome Address

Principal Matt Jones welcomed everyone to the ceremony, expressing the school’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by our military personnel. He shared the inspiration behind the Wall of Honor, highlighting the school's commitment to recognizing and honoring the service of its alumni and community members.

Tribute to Cpl. Humberto "Bert" Sanchez

Principal Jones introduced the family of Corporal Humberto "Bert" Sanchez. Coral and Alan Doolittle, with their children of Logansport, were present. Coral spoke on behalf of the family, discussing how, after visiting LHS over the years, she felt a deep sadness seeing the trophies on display yet no recognition for her son or other service members.

"My son gave his life for this school, and he graduated from this school, and there is nothing," she reflected.

Moved by the project's mission, Doolittle and her husband approached Jones, offering to donate funds raised in honor of their son to help establish the wall.

"This is really important to me and my family," she expressed. "There are more people who are going to enlist, and unfortunately, we know that some are not going to come back."

Speeches and Reflections

John Scott, the Service Officer at VFW Post 3790 in Logansport, spoke about the enduring legacy of service and the importance of remembering those who served. His words were followed by Thomas Schoenradt, Commander of the American Legion Post 60, who emphasized the significance of the Wall of Honor in preserving the history and sacrifices of our veterans.

A special moment was reserved for Mr. Lenny Corso, representing the Logansport High School "Class of 1964.” A Vietnam Era Veteran and U.S. Army Special Forces "Green Beret" Medic from 1966 to 1969, Mr. Corso shared his experiences and the profound impact of his military service and the class of 1964 and other classes in the 1960s. His speech was a powerful reminder of the courage and dedication exhibited by our veterans.
